I am very excited to have Laura Powell by the blog today for an interview as a part of her blog tour for Burn Mark!
Laura Powell spent most of her childhood with her nose in a book. She went on to study Classics at Bristol and Oxford, and then spent five years working in the editorial departments of both adult and children’s publishers. Laura is the author of two thrillers for teen readers, Game of Triumphs and Master of Misrule. Find her on the web at her website and twitter.
Who was your favorite character to write in Burn Mark?
I found Glory challenging and that was quite fun in itself – she’s tough, edgy and a bit of a
gangster’s moll! So many fantasy novel heroines who get magic powers are portrayed as “the-
girl-next-door”, and I wanted to get past that. Glory softens over the course of the story, and we
get see her vulnerable side, but I really enjoyed creating a heroine I’d probably be a bit scared of
in real life.
This clearly says a lot about a person – what is your karaoke song of choice?

What book have you read recently and enjoyed?
I’m reading “The Year of the Flood”, by Margaret Atwood. It’s post-apocalyptic futuristic
fiction, which I normally tend to avoid because it’s always so depressing. But this one’s as
exciting as it’s horrifying and full of gorgeous prose.
Thanks so much for stopping by Laura! Make sure to check out my review of Burn Mark as well, which will be up later today! Also be sure to follow the rest of the blog tour – find the full schedule here.
Here’s a bit about Burn Mark if you haven’t heard: Glory is from a family of witches and lives beyond the law. She is desperate to develop her powers and become a witch herself. Lucas is the son of the Chief Prosecutor for the Inquisition—the witches’ mortal enemy—and his privileged life is very different to the forbidden world that he lives alongside.
And then on the same day, it hits them both. Glory and Lucas develop the Fae—the mark of the witch. In one fell stroke, their lives are inextricably bound together, whether they like it or not . . .
