I am super excited to have Roxanne Snopek by the blog for an interview today! Be sure to check out my review of Her Reluctant Rancher which went up today as well.
Roxanne Willems Snopek is an award-winning freelance writer of everything from corporate newsletters to personal essays. Author of the Amazing Stories series of true life animal adventures, she now focuses on fiction. Snopek grew up in Saskatchewan and now lives in British Columbia.
Who is your favorite character to write in the Three River Ranch series?
I have to say so far it’s Desiree. She’s got so much spirit – I wish I was more like her! She’s never scared to speak her mind. Plus, she’s got curly hair, which I’ve always wanted. And voluptuous curves, sigh.
Can you tell us a little about your writing process?
1) Idea. Frantic writing. Excitement, sleeplessness, certainty of success, fortune, fame.
2) Plummet back to earth. Feel like I’m chiseling stone with a q-tip. Despair. Certainty of nothing but the extreme lameness of idea.
3) Pull head out. Review idea. Adjust expectations. Write to schedule. Finish book. Certainty of nothing except that it’s the best I can do, at this stage of my career.
4) Start all over with next book.
What is a book you have read and loved lately?
Wife for Hire, by Christine Bell. - Great marriage-of-convenience story!
And Yours at Midnight by Robin Bielman - A heart-tuggingly satisfying novella by a very talented author!
I loved both of those books :) Now, how does your writing process differ between your fiction versus non fiction?
My non-fiction is almost all client-driven these days, so I write exactly what they want, when they want it. Which makes it much easier, in a way, because there’s little room for me to start what-if-ing. For instance, I recently covered the PetSmart Charities National Adoption weekend.
I attended the event, interviewed a bunch of wonderful people, met some awesome pets, and wrote profiles about a few of them. I’m passionate about this kind of event, so I was happy to do it, but it uses a much more analytical part of my brain.
What is next for you?
The next Three River Ranch book! It’s about Carson’s brother Mitchell and his reunion with the woman he hurt years ago – and who he desperately needs a favor from now. I’m so excited to write it! It’ll be my Best Book Ever! (see stage 1, above)
The last place city girl Desiree Burke expected to find herself was living at and working on a ranch, much less butting heads with the ranch’s sexy cowboy owner, Zach Gamble. But that’s exactly where she ends up after an incident at work leads her to her best friend Rory’s doorstep. Desiree is a gifted physical therapist, and Rory knows exactly where her brand of tough love is needed the most.
Zach’s been through hell and back. A devastating car crash left his brother gone, his father paralyzed, and him with mental scars a mile wide. His survivor guilt alone makes him sure he doesn’t deserve to find love. But as Des works her way into his ranch, his family, and his life, suddenly the last person who belonged there is the only one he believes belongs…with him.
